Why This Actually Matters

This isn’t guesswork — it’s what the data says about local search right now:

Getting Started & Account Basics

What is Google Business Profile management?

Google Business Profile management is the ongoing process of keeping your free Google listing accurate, complete, and active — categories, hours, photos, posts, reviews, and Q&A — so it continues performing in local search instead of quietly going stale.

Is Google Business Profile free?

Yes, completely. Google doesn’t charge for the listing itself. What you pay for with a service like mine is the expertise and time it takes to get it right and keep it that way.

How do I claim my Google Business Profile?

Search for your business name on Google Maps or Google Search. If a listing already exists, you’ll see an option to claim it and verify ownership. If nothing comes up, you’ll create a new profile at business.google.com. Verification is usually done by postcard, phone, email, or video, depending on your business type.

Who owns my Google Business Profile?

Whoever verified and claimed it first, unless ownership has been formally transferred. If you’re not sure who currently has access, Google has a dispute process for reclaiming a profile from a previous owner, employee, or agency.

Can I merge two Google Business Profiles?

Yes, if they’re duplicates for the same location. The process differs slightly depending on whether both listings are verified, and reviews generally can’t be transferred between them — so it’s worth doing carefully rather than just deleting one.

What happens if I delete my Google Business Profile?

You lose your reviews, photos, posts, and Local Pack visibility immediately — and there’s no way to recover a deleted profile’s history. It’s rarely the right move, even for a rebrand; updating the existing profile is almost always better than starting over.

Working With Me — Pricing & Process

How much does Google Business Profile optimization cost?

Full optimisation is a one-time $249. Ongoing management runs $149/mo, and reputation management $129/mo (or $229/mo bundled). Every price is listed openly on the pricing page — no gated quotes.

Do I need a website if I already have a Google Business Profile?

You can rank in the Local Pack without one, but a website strengthens your overall visibility — and increasingly your AI-search visibility, since a mismatch between your GBP and your website is treated as a trust red flag by AI systems. They work together, not instead of each other.

Is Google Business Profile optimization still worth it in 2026, with AI search growing?

More than ever. The same signals that get you into the Local Pack — a complete, accurate, active profile — are what get you recommended by AI Overviews and other AI search tools. Businesses treating their GBP as “done” are the ones losing visibility, not the ones still investing in it.

Can I optimize my Google Business Profile myself?

Yes — the dashboard is free and open to any owner. A specialist adds knowing which fields actually move your ranking and having the consistent time to maintain it, which is where most owners run out of bandwidth.

How long does the process take?

Hands-on optimisation work is typically completed within one to three weeks. Ranking movement usually starts to show within 30–90 days after that, depending on how competitive your local market is.

Do you require a contract?

No. One-time services are paid once with no renewal. Monthly retainers run month to month with no minimum term, and you can cancel any time.

Ranking & Local SEO

What are the biggest Google Business Profile mistakes?

The wrong primary category, inconsistent NAP across the web, a neglected Q&A section, generic reviews that never mention your actual services, a profile nobody’s touched in months, and a website that doesn’t match what your GBP lists. Any one of these quietly caps your visibility.

How do reviews affect my ranking?

Reviews account for roughly a fifth of Local Pack ranking weight. Volume, recency, and response rate all matter — but so does the actual text: reviews that mention your specific services carry more weight than generic praise.

How often should I update my Google Business Profile?

At minimum, monthly. Businesses in competitive markets often benefit from weekly activity. Consistency matters more than raw frequency — a profile that goes quiet for months and then gets a burst of changes looks less trustworthy to Google than one that’s steadily active.

What’s the difference between local SEO and GBP optimization?

GBP optimisation is direct work on your Google Business Profile itself — categories, attributes, posts, reviews. Local SEO is the broader discipline that also includes your website’s location pages, schema, citations, and content strategy. A perfect GBP without site-side support underperforms, and a great website without GBP optimisation misses the Local Pack entirely — they work together.

How can I rank higher on Google Maps?

Ranking comes down to proximity, relevance, and prominence. Proximity is fixed. Relevance comes from accurate categories, complete services, and a well-written description. Prominence comes from reviews, citations, and how established your business looks across the web. Optimisation work focuses on the two you can actually influence.

AI Search & The Future

How do I rank in Google AI Overviews?

The signals overlap heavily with Local Pack signals: profile completeness, category accuracy, review depth with real detail, and consistency between your GBP and your website. There’s no separate “AI Overviews checklist” — a properly optimised profile is also AI-search ready.

Can ChatGPT or AI replace local SEO?

No — if anything, it raises the bar. AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity pull from the same kind of structured, accurate business information that Google’s Local Pack relies on. A business with a thin or inconsistent online presence isn’t confidently recommended by AI any more than it ranks well in Maps.

Problems & Recovery

Why was my Google Business Profile suspended?

Common causes include an unverifiable address, a business name with marketing language or keywords stuffed in, duplicate listings, an ineligible category, or activity that looks suspicious to Google’s spam systems. See Suspended Profile Recovery for how the reinstatement process works.

Can Google reviews be removed?

Only if they violate Google’s content policies — fake reviews, conflicts of interest, harassment, off-topic content, or illegal content. A genuine but unflattering review from a real customer generally can’t be removed just for being negative. See Bad Review Removal for the full breakdown.

Why are my reviews not showing up?

Google’s spam-filtering systems sometimes catch and hide genuine reviews, particularly if they were posted in a short burst, from accounts with unusual activity patterns, or without enough Google account history. It’s frustrating but usually not something the business did wrong — there’s a reporting process if it looks like a filtering error.
